Module Four – Web Tools
For this task we needed download a list of programs or a provide alternatives. Here is my list.
Document Reader
Adobe Reader – Already had this, it is pretty much the standard for secure documents.
Media Players
QuickTime / iTunes – Already had this because of my iPod. I only use it to sync songs and play movie trailers from the net.
Windows Media Player – This is packaged with Microsoft Windows so everyone should have this. I use this for music only.
VLC Player – This is an open source media player that I use for all movie files.
Search Managers Combiners
Copernic Meta- Since Copernic Meta was discontinued as of July 21, 2007 I tried the Copernic Agent Basic option. To be honest I was somewhat disappointed as the options available were severely limited if you didn’t purchase it. The search results seemed to be pretty much the same as Google.
Bookmark Managers
del.icio.us – I didn’t go with the download options provided as only limited trials were on offer and I already use del.icio.us for managing my bookmarks.
Offline Browser / Copier
Website eXtractor – I used to use this quite regularly but have found it isn’t as effective in recent years. This is due to more sites being database driven and scripts being implemented that ensure anyone downloading the site gets nothing but rubbish files.
